Who can ignore Futuroscope..?
Parc du Futuroscope: a visit to the Vienne department is unthinkable without a visit to Parc du Futuroscope, which in 2005 became the second-largest attractions park in France when it welcomed the 30-millionth visitor to share that sentiment and enjoy the more than 20 stunning attractions on this 60-hectare site.
Every season at Parc du Futuroscope means new attractions, and there are more new thrills and extra-large excitement in store for 2005.
History has been generous to Chasseneuil du Poitou. It has bequeathed us some wonderful architectural treasures that are a delight to the eyes. Nobody staying here can miss a visit to église Saint-Clément, the beautiful church built between the XIth and XIXth centuries that fell victim to the successive wars of religion, but which never completely disappeared. Its majestic western side built in the Romanesque style was restored in 2001 and overlooks the Clain river. Come and admire it whatever you do!
And other places reveal other "jewels". Coming into Chasseneuil du Poitou from the east you will find le Moulin d'Anguitard, the XIXth century water-powered wheat mill on the banks of the Clain river. The town council took over the running of the mill from the Grands Moulins de Chasseneuil company in 1977, and today it is home to a range of cultural activities. A glorious place to visit… just like the church and the former wash house which have both been fully restored.
But Chasseneuil du Poitou also knows how to live like a lord, as sumptuously illustrated by Le Clos de La Ribaudière - the stately XIXth century château set in magnificently landscaped gardens that are home to the theatre in the park - and the La Cluzette estate (XIXth century also). Visitors should also see the Pont Neuf bridge built in 1863 to enable cars to pass from one side of the Clain river to the other, and the "La Maison d'Autrefois" museum, a first-hand look at how people used to live in times gone by. This residence has nine theme-based rooms (clothes, wash house, forge, etc) including a genuine 1930's classroom. Amazing!
